Beautiful parks, world-class galleries, majestic baroque and rococo palaces, grand neo-classical buildings, and lest we forget - the ubiquitous beer halls are what you can expect from this city. You can reach Munich city centre in just 40 mins with a car hire from Munich Airport.

Head to the heart of the city to Marienplatz, the city's central square. Marvel at the neo-Gothic New Town Hall with its glockenspiel, an architectural wonder of a clock, with a chime that reenacts historical events. Climb the iconic towers of the Frauenkirche for panoramic city views and head on to the vibrant food market at Viktualienmarkt.

Nymphenburg Palace is a 40-minute drive from the airport via the A9. This 17th Century, baroque palace, nicknamed the "Bavarian Versailles," boasts opulent Rococo interiors, expansive manicured gardens, and is home to the world's largest collection of porcelain made by the famous Nymphenburger Manufaktur. There is free parking along the palace walls.

One of the largest urban parks in the world, Englischer Garten is a sprawling lush green park popular with Münchner and tourists alike. Rent a car at Munich Airport and prepare to savour a German feast. Munich’s food scene is eclectic, you will find everything from hearty, traditional Bavarian food to Michelin-star restaurants. Here are some of our chosen recommendations:

Hofbräuhaus, arguably one of the world's most famous beer houses, is located in the heart of the city (approximately 40 km from the airport).  With a capacity of over 5,000, it has an exuberant and lively atmosphere. Pair their famous Hofbräuhaus lager with a giant pretzel or a plate of mustard-slathered Weisswurst (white veal sausage) for an authentic taste of Munich.

Once the stables of Munich’s royal residence, Brenner, an Italian restaurant now features a sleek, minimalist interior and a menu that offers dishes that are a fusion of Bavarian and international cuisine, made using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. With a car hire at Munich Airport, you can be at Brenner on Maximilianstraße 15 in 25 minutes.

A quintessential thing to do in Munich is to take a brewery tour. Known as the world’s oldest brewery, Weihenstephan Brewery is perched atop a hill and was once the brewery of the Benedictine monks. They have a restaurant serving traditional German fare. Sample their delicious pilsner while taking in the breathtaking views of the old town of Freising.
